Cream of Chestnut Soup

As promised here is my recipe for Cream of Chestnut Soup,  I used to use freash chestnuts but to be honest they are so much bother it`s as well just to use tinned puree.
Sweet Chestnut Tree

2 Pints Good Stock (Ham, Chicken or Vegetable)
2 Pints Milk
3oz Flour
3oz Margarine
¼ Pint Cream
2tins of Chestnut Puree

Bring the Stock and Milk to the boil
Melt the Marg in a thick-bottomed Pan
Add the flour, mix with a Wooden spoon (This is a roux)
Cook on a low heat for a few minutes.
Slowly add the stock mixing well. You can now use a Whisk.
Allow to cook out (This is a Volute)
Slowly whisk in the Chestnut Puree to the Volute
Finally add the Cream and check the seasoning.

Makes 8 to 10 portions

Back to Normality

So back to work today. A chance to catch my breath and now write what we did over Christmas, it was a bit fast and furious. Because our house is quite small there was no way we could use the front room for the Grand kids to open the presents and then eat the Family Christmas Lunch in there. So we put the  20 X 10foot Party tent up on the patio. We decorated it with a tree and lights etc. I even managed to get hold of a piece of lovely thick carpet from one of my clients that was having a new floor lied. I made an 8foot long table and Chris borrowed some chairs from her Beaver group,  and 2 heaters

Victorian Gardener ?

Since realizing that I am still Gothic-minded, I have always thought that I could not dress Gothic for the work I do been a gardener I mainly need to wear weather-proof clothing. However sometimes the rain does stop and the Jack Pyke and High- Vis can come off.
Me at Work
One TV Gardener that I liked although sadly is no longer with us was Harry Dobson.

The Late Harry Dodson

Harry became known as the Victorian Gardener and this gave me the idea to look in his books actually at the pictures of him and his dress. It soon became clear that I could easily emulate the style of a Victorian gardener and in fact I had not unknowingly been that far off. So queue white check shirts, waistcoats, brown corduroy trousers and boots. I might pass on the flat caps though.

Another Man In Black.

I wear the black for the Greyhounds that are made to race,
Livin' in the hopeless, dirty kennels
I wear it for the Greyhounds thrown out when they stop winning
Because they’re victim of mans greed.
I wear the black for the Greyhounds that have never know love,
Or felt the warmth of a comfy bed.

I wear the black for the Greyhounds kept hungry and cold,
They are the ones that need charity, not known to them.

Pic from Tia Greyhounds

I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine loving, dogs,
And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
While the world doesn’t care.

Lonely This Christmas ?

Dogs are for life, not just for Christmas, but what is Christmas without dogs ?
This will be the first Christmas I have had without at least one dog since I was about nine years old. It will feel so empty.

SUN and MOON over Yorkshire

The other day I stopped on my way to work to take these two pictures, one looking forward, the other from the same spot but looking back.
The Moon going down and the sun coming up
The Moon still up.
The sun just coming up

Just my luck!

Today I fell out of bed my ankle still hurting from when I twisted it yesterday with having no intention of leaving the house put on an old pair of blue jeans and a work jumper so I looked like any other 50 + year old.

How I should have dressed to meet the JW`s
Then there was a knock on the door and it was two Jehovah’s Wittiness`s. DAM I wish I’d put on my “Blood and Bats” shirt or anything more “Dark” on, but I am in too much pain to get into a debate with anyone today anyway so I just took their books and said “thanks”
Something better than Christmas……………
That will be about Whitby Goth Weekend then !

Got my appointment for a Gastroscopy at LGI Friday 4.00pm Chris is away, so cannot have a general. Can`t eat/drink from 8.00 am. Ha...
