Skelton Tower, Levisham, North Yorkshire

Whilst on holiday last week I had a walk to Skelton Tower, to me a beautiful ruining Gothic building.

Skelton Tower, Levisham, North Yorkshire
It is in a remote part of  The North Yorkshire Moors about a mile away from the road, which itself is not much more than a tarred track..

It is a Grade 2 listed 19th century shooting lodge built for the Rev Robert Skelton formerly of Levisham.

Elsewhere on the internet it says he might have wrote his sermons here, or maybe had a quiet drink?

The Tower over looks The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (Preserved Steam) Which now runs through to Whitby?

The Railway and it`s stations have featured in many films and TV programs most famously Heart Beat and Harry Potter.

  2. What a lovely place! Is this railway used only for the steamtrain? Is it a narrow gauge?

    1. Once you get away from the main tourist trail you can find all sorts of little places in The North Yorkshire Moors National Park, which is why I love it. The NYM Railway is what we call a Historic or Preserved railway that is not part of the national system and is run by volunteers on a line that was closed in the sixties, using stock that has been saved from the scrap yards. They do have some Diesel Locomotives as well and is `Standard Gauge`
